What size should a printed QR code be?

A QR code that is too small or too faint will not scan. Size depends on how far away people will stand.

A simple rule

Aim for a distance-to-size ratio of about 10 to 1. A code scanned from 1 metre away should be at least 10 cm wide. For a business card, 2 to 3 cm is usually enough.

Contrast and space

Use a dark code on a light background. Keep a blank border around the code, about the width of four small squares. Do not stretch the code or place it over busy photos.

Download SVG or PDF for print, because they stay sharp at any size.
